ENTE KERALA ETHRA SUNDARAM???

Ente keralam.. ethra sundaram...usha uthuppu's famous song is hurting my nostalgic feelings. 18 years ago i landed in UAE. The changes i see in my gods own country is very hurtingl.. In my child hood any festival in kerala is our festival, let it be vishu, Ramadan, or Christmas.. we celebrated it with much enthusiasm. The evenings after school are our golden moments. My friends, Anas, anzila,nazila, Rafi, sushil, sushanth everyone is ready to play. we play till the prayer from the mosque is louder. If it is a sunday evenings it is like a football final competition. Now I can’t see any such gatherings. All are either behind TV, play station, mobile or internet. The evenings in our village used to start normally with the devotional songs from the near by temple, followed by the news from the library and so on. No more libraries in the villages. When there is a marriage or housewarming ceremony the entire function is carried out by the native people and friends. The friends make this occasion a remarkable one by the hard work and unity. They will do the entire effort and preparation which eases the family from hectic man power charges and responsibility. The hard fact now is that you won’t find any one at a marriage house or any such occasion except the very close relatives till the lunch starts. You need to hire people for every thing. The worst part is that if you want any help from the neighbors or friends is you need to serve liquor like a mini bar. Even a death happened in your neighbor hood, now the new youth ask for liquor to be served in order to help the families for the burial ceremony.Liquor is the only magic that brings people to form a group now.
There used to be festivals in our village like sports day or library related functions where the participation of public used to be with full heart. Now you find politics every where and lack of trust.
Earlier our evenings are filled with old Hindi songs from the near by cinema theaters before the shows. But no more theatres and even second shows are any more there. The theatres are converted in to go downs as the TV. Internet and pirated CD‘s killed that industry. Earlier the towns and village streets are busy till mid night. Now most of the Kerala towns are almost empty by 7 or 8 o clock. Earlier after the business hours people used be sit together and chit chat which made unity and exchange of ideas and allowed a friendly co ordial atmosphere. These unity and brother hood is no more even in villages. Everyone is busy with there own things. They don’t have time for anyone. No body is bothered to look at your bed ridden neighbor and check his welfare. Politicians are equal culprits in converting the public with such attitudes as they know very well unity of villagers make their effort harder in order to rule them. So they bring cheap politic stunts to separate them.
Within these 15-20 years our generation lost lots of such golden memories, such very important qualities, and good behavior of our state. our own kalaripayatu, daffumuttu, or oppana, thiruvaathira kali can be viewed in some television reality shows. We can’t find any such cheerful faces any where. We cant find any social service by public any where like making a bus shelter for the public or expanding the road or cleaning the drainage except for the politics stunts now a days.
Our new generation doesn’t have any such good things to remember. Our memories about the games that we played in our child hood, like marble throw, police and thief, hide and seek etc. will be remembered as stories. They don’t celebrate onam by going out and fetch the flowers from the neighbor hood. Instead they buy ready made flowers from the shop if they still want to celebrate.
They don’t know there neighbor hood. They don’t know their friends names. The new generation is all alone by them selves and hence they are all under depression and lonely. They lost love for everyone and the result is a negative attitude leading to crime, depression, suicides and all lot.. The results are even big. They throw there parents after an age to old age homes or on the street. Be cause they don’t have any concern for anyone. They don’t have patience.
We lost all these because of the carelessness of our own generation. We are going through a period of modernization and electronic era. Mobiles served the purpose of a personal visit. Television take you from the radio at a tea stall, Internet take you from your friends circle and library. We lost our identity now and we passed all these friendship killing modern amenities in the name of trend and fashion to our next generation.
Our children will never forgive us for all these. If we could not pass any of our golden memories to our children what will they share with their next generation?
We need to wake up before it is too late and help preserve our identities as Keralites. This is possible by sharing our cherished memories and evokes a wave of changes to go back to our roots. Our roots, where we stand for our people without any prejudice and pride, we share our friendship, our care for our village, our next generation which will make a Sundara keralam. We Pravasi’s should take the initiative as we feel these nostalgic memories much more than our compatriots in Kerala where they all are part of a fast life cycle. When we sit here and look at them we feel like we lost all those good things of our state more than anyone as we lost more of our social life.

HAPPY VISHU

Vishu - A festival for the prosperity and happiness of the people. It is a festival held in the state of Kerala (and adjoining areas of Tamil Nadu) in India around the first day in the Malayalam month of Medam (April – May). This occasion signifies the Sun's transit to the zodiac Mesha Mesha Raasi as per Indian astrological calculations. Vishu is also considered as the Malayalam New Year day and thus the importance of this day to all Malayalees regardless of their religion or sect. Similarly the day is celebrated in almost all places in India by the Hindus albeit by different names. In Assam this day is called Bihu, in Punjab Baisakhi and in Tamil Nadu Puthandu. The word "Vishu" in Sanskrit means "equal". Therefore Vishu is more probably denoting one of the equinox days.le.

The festival is marked with offerings to the divine called Vishukkani. The offerings consist of a ritual arrangement in the puja room of auspicious articles like raw rice, fresh linen, golden cucumber, betal leaves, arecanut, metal mirror, the yellow flowers konna (Cassia fistula), and a holy text and coins, in a bell metal vessel called uruli. A lighted bell metal lamp called nilavilakku is also placed alongside. This arrangement is completed the previous night. On the day of Vishu, the custom is to wake up at dawn and go to the puja room with the eyes closed so that the Vishukkani is the first thing one sees. Since the occasion marks the beginning of Malayalam New Year, it is also considered auspicious to read verses from Hindu Holy book Ramayanam after seeing the "Vishukkani". It is also believed by some that the page of the Ramayanam to which you open up will have a bearing on your life in the coming year. Devotees also throng the well-known temple Guruvayur temple to have a "Vishukkani Darshan" on the early hours of "Vishu" day.
"Vishu" is celebrated with more fanfare and vigour in North Kerala as compared to other parts of Kerala. Bursting crackers is part and parcel of the celebration especially for children. Elders gift firecrackers to children and every child vie with each other to make a world of their own. The lingering smell of the fire crackers on a Vishu morning is a long cherished nostalgic memory of any Malayalee. The people wear new clothes (kodi vastram) for the occasion and the elders of the family distribute tokens of money to the children, servants and tenants. These tokens are called Vishukkaineetam and are usually in the form of coins. People carry on this custom believing that in this way, their children will be blessed with prosperity in the future.
Vishu is also a day of feasting, wherein the edibles consist of roughly equal proportions of salty, sweet, sour and bitter items. Feast items include Veppampoorasam (a bitter preparation of neem) and Mampazhapachadi (a sour mango soup).

The above is about the Vishu and its relevence. But I would like to open the window to another side of people who doesnt have a Vishu. It is the The farmers of kerala .

As mentioned earlier this festival is to mark the prosperity, harvest and happiness of the people. But is it the real fact? The farmers who are the real food manufacturers of Kerala , are commiting suicide as they could not pay back the interst rate of the Banks. They took loan from banks to buy seeds, agricultural e quipments, fertilisers and to pay the farmers. But due to the bad weather and Worst marketing strategies they end up in loses and could not repay the Banks. So to avoid the bank punnishments they opt for commiting suicide leaving their family in grief. Their family is weeping and looking forward to the mercy of us. So Support them if any of you can in any means and let them smile and that will be our very best "vishu Kaineetam." I wish them all the Happines and Prosperity for their family. DEAR FRIENDS,

HOPE YOU ALL ARE DOING GOOD !!

BUT THE OTHER DAY I MET A MAN WHO IS NOT DOING GOOD.
I MET HIM IN A GARAGE WHERE HE WAS DOING SOME ODD JOBS. WHAT MADE ME TO PAY ATTENTION ON HIM WAS THE WAY HE WAS CLEANING OUR COMPANY CAR. HIS RIGH HAND IS HAVING A BANDAGE. SO HE WAS CLEANING THE CAR WITH ONE HAND. WHEN I STOPED HIM FROM DOING HIS JOB ENQUIRED ABOUT IT, HE TOLD ME ABOUT HIM SELF WITH DIFFICULTY. IT WAS THIS. THIS BENGALI GUY, HIS NAME IS MUHAMMED FIRDOUS MIA HAD AN ACCIDENT FIVE MONTHS AGO. HE WAS WALKING OUT FROM HIS HOUSE TO THE ROAD SIDE WHILE ANOTHER BENGALI DROVE HIS CAR AND HIT FIRDOUS ON HIS RIGHT HAND.

FIRDOUS GOT ADMITTED AT THE RASHID HOSPITAL FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY, AND THEY INSERTED A PLATE WITH 6 SCREWS ON IT. WHILE HE WAS IN THE HOSPITAL THE BENGALI GUY WHO MADE THE ACCIDENT, PROMISED HIM THAT HE WILL BEAR ALL HIS EXPENSES AND HOSPITAL BILLS TO KEEP THIS ISSUE SETTELED WITHOUT THE AUTHORITY. FIRDOUS AGREED TO IT AS HIS VISA ALREADY EXPIRED AND IS ILLEGAL IN THE COUNTRY BY NOW.

BUT SINCE HE JUST CAME TO U.A.E IMMEDIATELY AFTER HIS MARRIAGE HE CAN NOT GO BACK TO BENGLADESH SOON. SO FIRDOUS HAS NO CHOICE TO GO TO THE POLICE BUT TO ACCEPT WHAT THE OTHER GUY OFFERED. BUT AFTER WHEN HE THE SURGERY WAS OVER HE NEVER MET THAT BENGALI GUY. IT WAS SOME FIVE MONTHS AGO.

THE MOMENT I LOOKED AT HIS HAND I COULD SEE HIS CALF GOT A HEAVY SWELLING AND PUSS IS OOZING OUT ON HIS PALM THROGH THE BANDAGE. AND HE LOST 2 TEETH AS WELL.. DUE TO THIS HE CAN NOT PROPERLY SPEAK ALSO.

HIS PRESENT CONDITION IS THAT HE CANNOT GO TO ANY GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL FOR A TREATMENT AS HE IS ILLEGAL IN THE COUNTRY. THE SECOND THING HE CAN NOT DO ANY JOB. SO FINALLY HE GOT THE JOB WITH THIS PRESENT GARAGE.

SO I WANT TO HEAR THIS STORY AGAIN FROM HIS COLLEGUE WHO IS ATTENDING OUR CAR. HE WAS A PAKISTAN NATIONAL. HE CONFIRMED THIS THING AND HE SAID THE WORK SHOP WHERE THEY WORK DIDNT PAY THEM FOR THE LAST TWO MONTHS AND THIS PAKISTHANI IS FEEDING THIS FIRDOUS FROM HIS POCKET MONEY. HE ALSO WARNED ME THAT THIS FIRDOUS MIGHT LOOSE HIS HAND IF UNATTENDED AS ITS ALREADY A SWOLEN ONE.

ME AND MY COLLEGUE FELT SAD AND PAID SOME MONEY, BUT LATTER ON WHEN WE ARGUE WITH THE HIGH BILL WITH THE OWNER OF THE GARAGE THE SAME FIRDOUS CAME FROM BACK SIDE AND WANT TO RETURN OUR MONEY THINKING THAT WE WERE ARGUING SINCE WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY WITH US. THIS TOUCHED ME. HE IS OF SOME 25 PLUS AGED GUY.

TODAY I SEND HIM TO AL NOOR HOSPITAL AT NAIF ROAD, WHERE I SPEAK TO THE ORTHO DOCTOR WHERE HE GOT TREATMENT BEFORE. ALL THE DOCTORS WERE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THIS ORDINARY MAN. HE WAS JUST WAITING HIS TURN UN ATTENDED. SINCE I KNOW MOST OF THE STAFF AND DOCTORS THERE THEY HELPED ME TO GET HIS NAME INCLUDED IN THE MORNING SESSION. EARLIER CLINICS WHERE HE WENT , WHERE GIVING HIM JUST SOME ANTIBIOTICS FOR THE NAME SAKE. AND SINCE IT IS EXPENSIVE AND HE COULD NOT AFFORD DUE TO THE ANTIBIOTIC PRICE HE WILL BUY THIS ACCORDING TO HIS BUDGET AND WHEN HE CAN AFFORD.

SO THE PUSS AND THE INFECTION INCREASED. BUT UPON MY REQUEST THE DOCTOR TOOK INITIATIVE TO DO THE X RAY AND THEN ONLY THE DOCTOR FOUND THE REAL REASON FOR THIS SWELLING AND PUSS. THE BONES STILL NOT JOINTED AND THE NAILS CAME OUT AS IT WAS NOT PROPERLY DONE INITIALLY. SO THE ONLY WAY FIRDOUS COULD HAVE HIS HAND BACK IS TO DO A RE SURGERY AND RE INSTALL THE STEEL PLATE WITH MORE SCREWS AND NEED COMPLETE REST FOR THE ARM. THE TIME I SAW HIM IN THE GARAGE HE WAS CARRYING A FULL BUCKET WITH LEFT HAND AND IN RIGH HAND THE CLEANING BRUSH.

HE NEEDS TREATMENT. BUT THE DOCTOR SUGESTED THAT IT IS BETTER TO SEND HIM BACK TO BANGLADESH. SO HE COULD DO THE SURGERY AGAIN AND NEED BONE GRAFTING, WHERE THEY WILL HAVE TO CUT THE FEMUR BONE PIECE OR SOME OTHER BONE AND GRAFT IT ON THE HAND BONES. SO THE ONLY WAY IS TO SEND THIS GENTLE MAN. THE MOMENT DOCTOR SAID THIS HE STARTED TO CRY SAYING HE CAN NOT GO BACK AS HE HAS TO PAY BACK THE AMOUNT HE BORROWED TO REACH IN U.A.E AND THE AMOUNT SPEND FOR THE TREATMENT.

THE SURGERY WILL COST IN U.A.E. ARROUND 1O.OOO/ - DHS. WHERE AS IT WILL COST HIM IN HIS PLACE ARROUND 30 TO 40 THOUSAND BENGLADESHI RUPEES. SO IT IS BETTER TO SEND HIM BACK. BUT HE SHOULD BE SEND URGENTLY WITH THE HELP OF THE AUTHORITY. SO ANYONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO THIS PLEASE RESPOND.


HE NEED SUPPORT. FINANCIAL SUPPORT. CAN WE ALL HELP A HUMAN BEING. CAN WE ALL ALLOW THIS YOUNG MAN TO HAVE HIS HAND BACK. OTHER WISE IT WILL BE AMPUTED SOON. THE POOR GUY DONT KNOW THE SERIOUSNESS. HE IS THINKING THAT THE ANTIBIOTIC PROVIDED BUY THE DOCTOR WILL CURE THIS. BUT THIS ANTI BIOTIC IS TO REMOVE THE INFECTION . THEN ONLY THE DOCTOR COULD DO A RE SURGERY.
